Bella's Story

Bella was born on 9-17-09,she was a preemie at 32 weeks and she was to be adopted by my husband and I. She weighed 3 pounds 12 ounces. We fell in love with her. We were less then 24 hours away from taking her home and we got a phone call from the Social worker at the hospital asking me to come to the hospital to talk. I was told that Bella had a devastating illness and that further testing needed to be done to confirm a diagnoses. She was diagnosed about two weeks after birth with Hydranencephaly. At the time a word we had never heard of before. When we looked it up on line the information was extremely depressing. I could not make it through a video without my heart tearing in two. When the diagnoses was explained to us we were also told tha they would place her in a facility and they would find a healthy baby for us. We were told that Bella would never smile, never show emotion, never be able to express her self, and never take steps to walk. We were told that Bella would not live thru the next three months to the first year of her life.

We decided to bring her home for as long as God would have Bella be with us. Then we would love her up for all the time we could have with her in our arms. Bella is four and half years old now. She is the strongest person I know. She has over come difficulties in the last four years that many never have to face in an entire lifetime. She does this smiling every single day through out the day. She has taught me what true love really is and what true determination looks like to thrive on earth.

Bella has had several surgeries that have helped her to get stronger. Bella loves to swim in her special pool, she is learning to walk in a gait trainer, she is learning to communicate thru her i pad, and she dose it all with more emotion then some ever express. Bella loves dogs, cats, chickens, monkeys, Elmo, mermaids, Strawberry Shortcake, High School Musical, and Barney. Bella interacts with her family, loves music, books and interacts with her school teacher and therapists on choosing yes or no responses to their questions on her i pad. Bella has recently started music therapy, which she loves. We are forever blessed with our sweet little girl and what a miracle she has become.
