Ben's Story

Ben went into the hospital on New Year's Eve 2013 and was in the PICU for the month of January while we tried to determine what was wrong with him. He was eventually diagnosed with an uncommon form of Lymphoma and he began treatment. He successfully completed six cycles of chemotherapy and was given the all-clear in May. Three weeks later he learned that his cancer was back and he spent time in the PICU again.

Ben has now completed more chemotherapy and he is preparing for a stem cell transplant in the near future. He will be in the hospital for several months and he will be in isolation at home for many months when he is discharged from the hospital. He hopes to return to school for the very end of his 8th grade year.

Ben is a fun and engaging young man who is active in his community and who loves to bring cheer and joy to others. He is a natural leader and is well loved by his friends. Ben is active in Boy Scouts, his church and his community.

What an amazing quilt! We were just amazed at how intricate the stitching was. Our son was so excited to see it, and so grateful to have such a wonderful gift to have as a symbol of all the care and attention he has received during his cancer journey. From our family to all of you, thank you! --
