Lucas's Story
Lucas was a healthy 7lb 4 oz baby boy. He was perfectly
happy and healthy. He is our only son. He is surrounded by two sisters.
Savannah is almost 10 and Mattalyn is 3.
Before his diagnosis of Stage III Neuroblastoma, Lucas' favorite things to
do were to ride his dirt
bike and play with his cousins and sisters.
Lucas was diagnosed April 19, 2013. He ran a fever on and off for a week
straight and I just knew that wasn't right. I took him to the doctor
thinking he had a virus of some sort. Upon his initial examination the
doctor felt the tumor in his abdomen. We were immediately sent to Vanderbilt
Children's Hospital where we have spent most of the last ten months. Lucas
has had 6 rounds of chemo, a 16 hour tumor debulking, face, foot, and sinus
surgery, he is 54 days out from his stem cell transplant and 11 out of 20
rounds of radiation down. After radiation Lucas will start an experimental
antibody therapy that will last 6 months.
Lucas has been through a lot. He has had at least 30 infections and spent
over 250 days in the hospital. he has had more surgery than most people will
ever have. He is a tough and inspiring little boy.
