Samantha's Story
Samantha (Sam) was a healthy child until she turned 3 and a half years old.
She started getting seizures and we were told that we were making it up. In
December of 2009 she had a a seizure lasting over 15 minutes. They finally
believed us and we were told she had epilepsy. As time went on the seizures
got worse and she started losing milestones.
When Sam was 5 she started having problems eating and walking. I had to make
the decision of getting her a feeding tube. In April of 2012 she got a
feeding tube. She no longer talks or walks. Cannot sit up on her own and is
going blind.
We had to travel to another state to get determine what was causing Sam to
decline. We got the diagnoses of Batten Disease November 2011. Going two
years without a diagnoses was difficult and to learn that this illness with
eventually take her life is even more difficult.
