Biography
Sequoyah was born beautiful and healthy in Nov of 2001. Discharged
normally from hospital 2 days after birth with a clean bill of health. We
enjoyed our time with her and she was such a content baby. Everything changed on
Feb 11th,2002 @ the tender age of 3 months and 13lbs. I left home to go visit a
friend and left my precious "Sugar Duck" AKA Coya home with her dad. She was
sound asleep & "ok" when I left. I came home about an hour later & my front yard
was swarmed by medical personell :-( I jumped out of the car & ran forward
towards house only to be directed to the back of the ambulance where paramedics
were actively trying to save my unresponsive daughters life. She was then
LIFEFLIGHTED to a Childrens Hospital in Orlando from our small town an hour
away. It was later that night we found out she had a traumatic brain injury from
a NON accidential injury :-( At 20 years old at the time I did not understand
what they were saying about my HEALTHY baby!!! The DR sat me down & tried to explain that Coya was a victim of a type of a very
violent child abuse called "SHAKEN BABY SYNDROME"!!! I had no clue what we were in for!
120 days in the hospital,brain surgeries,Gtube surgeries,infections,fevers,set
backs,therapies,hand splints,foot braces,endless,countless DR appts,special
needs school,blindness,developemental delays,special and very expensive
equiptment! 3 yrs after her initial TBI(INJURY) it came out in court her bio
father was the perp(the one who almost killed her by shaking her to death for
crying to much)... It has been a rough rd to say the least,but CoyCoy brings
this family endless joy on a daily basis :) She is our sunshine on a rainy day!
And such a "trooper"... My love deserves this so much! She is a survivor!
