Wyatt's Story

Wyatt's first infection was with his umbilical cord in his first couple
weeks of life. At about a month and a half he started getting "colds" or
upper respiratory infections frequently and then ear infections. At 5 months
old , he was hospitalized with Mastoiditis . He then had ear tubes placed.
He had one more hospital stay before the age of 1 for a febrile illness .

At about age one he developed a chronic cough which led to finally seeing a
Pulmonologist . He was treated for asthmatic symptoms but the cough
persisted. It was found through a bronchoscopy that Wyatt has
Laryngomalacia. Wyatt also has acid reflux so was set up at this time to see
a gastroenterologist and was started on a medical food regimen,  as he had
started to drop weight.  The Pulmonologist knew something else seemed "off"
and looked into to Wyatt's blood work. Wyatt had an almost zero level of
neutrophils , a white blood cell that fights off infection.

Wyatt was referred to a hematologist and after many many sticks and weeks of
blood draws , dosages of IV antibiotics, hospital stays, and a bone marrow
biopsy, Wyatt started Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor treatments to
artificially raise the neutrophil  count and give him a chance at fighting
infections and living outside of a "bubble".
